SBE were awarded the contract to install and commission two individual modular operating theatre suites at Wrightington Hospital for Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust, who needed to provide additional operating theatre capacity in order to cope with increased demand on their services.
Each theatre suite comprised an operating room with integral scrub-up, an anaesthetic, a sterile pack store preparation room, and a dirty utility and a staff rest area. One of the operating theatre suites also included the installation of a three bed recovery suite, office space and male and female staff changing areas. Each theatre suite had a link way corridor connecting to the main hospital building, each with a dedicated and stand-alone plant room installed at first floor level.
The new theatres were fitted out and finished to an extremely high standard. Due to the critical nature of the project, SBE were required to install A/B circuits and ERBs (Earth Reference Boxes) throughout the project as well as an IPS/UPS system.
In addition to the IPS/UPS and all general lighting and small power, other specialist services installed by SBE included the fire alarm system and a new nurse call system throughout.
As part of the project, membrane touch screen surgeon’s panels were also installed by SBE in each operating room, allowing highly sophisticated end user control to the department, including control of the operating lamps.
All services, installation and specification adhered to the HTM’s, HBN’s NHS specifications and the clients requirements.
