Graphene Engineering & Innovation Centre, Manchester

Having completed our contract works on GEIC, we thought we’d give you a more detailed insight into the works we carried out. The 8,400sqft centre, set over three floors, compromises of a wide range of workspaces – general offices ranging to high specification labs and plant rooms. With over 90% of the install compromising of open services, high-quality work was of the utmost importance.

The 9-month project (electrically) entailed a large work scope. From submains & distribution, through to primary/secondary containment, all lighting (both general and emergency) small power & earthing. The emergency lighting package is controlled via a central battery system – a University specification requirement.

Working on such a prestigious project, not only for an establishment such as the University of Manchester, but in the science & research industry, has been an exciting & profound time for all at SBE. The University has more than 230 researchers working on graphene research, and GEIC, positioned in the heart of our city, will cement Manchester as the home of graphene with unrivalled expertise.
