An exciting new project for SBE, right in the heart of our City.
A second centre for research into the “wonder-material” graphene is under construction, and the £60m project, the ‘Graphene Engineering Innovation Centre’, is to be located at the University of Manchester. Whilst our time on site may have just begun, there is already such a ‘buzz’ around the project.
For those of you, like us, who had no idea what Graphene was, here is a little insight.
Graphene is the world’s first 2D material, and since its isolation in 2004, has captured the attention of scientists, researchers and industries worldwide. There are so many potential benefits to this new ‘wonder material’. Graphene membranes could see huge progress in water purification technology in developing countries, and electronics & energy storage could also be revolutionised. These are the future technologies which are becoming realistic in our present, and we couldn’t be happier to be involved in such an exciting and innovative project.
Now we don’t know about you, but everyone here at SBE can’t wait to see the building as it develops, and albeit a while off, on final completion.
We will keep you posted!
